Volunteering in your own community

July 7th, 2015 by Deanne Mulvihill

Volunteering is a beautiful thing!
Community first; powered by the Chamber of Commerce;

We are looking for some great volunteers who love getting out and working with friends, neighbors and business owners to bring our community events to life!

Oktoberfest is coming October 3rd to Fickel Park and we are looking for residents that have the time to help set up for this wonderful traditional event. These events enhance our town and bring people in from around the area to shop, eat and spend money which helps our community thrive! This is an event everyone enjoys whether you are old, young or a family. Your volunteering would be most appreciated and valued. It is great fun and you get to meet and see many Berthoud residents you don’t see very often!

Who better to put on a great community event than the people who live here!

This is a wonderful spirit of community coming together to celebrate Berthoud with local residents, students and businesses, our heartfelt thanks to all.

Please contact us if you would like to Volunteer

Here are the top 10 reasons why you should join:
1) Membership brings credibility to your business.
2) Increases your visibility in the community.
3) Creates networking opportunities.
4) Gain a voice in government.
5) Make business contacts.
6) Receive chamber newsletters.
7) Acquire customer referrals.
8) Chamber events and programs.
9) Promotion and publicity.
10) Access to members-only discounts and services.

*Research points out that consumers are more likely to do business with a company if it’s a member of their local chamber of commerce.

*People like to do business with companies they know, like and trust, but that trust must be earned. You can shorten this time to establish your image and reputation in the community by joining the chamber.

Keep in mind, however, that you can’t just be a member of our chamber to reap the benefits of chamber membership. Paying your annual dues just isn’t enough. You must also make an investment of time and effort in our chamber activities and become involved. Simply put, what you get out of the chamber membership, is directly relative to what you put in.

Download our membership form from our website or contact us for an appointment. We welcome the opportunity to visit with you.

The Year in Review

November 28th, 2014 by Deanne Mulvihill

Another year is almost gone. We are gearing up for our Membership Celebration and Installation Dinner on January 10, 2015 at Brookside Gardens. Be sure to Save the Date! Our theme is "The Stars Align." Get your Hollywood on!  We are looking for sponsors, if you are interested, please contact the Chamber office.  We have something for everyone.  Maybe you'd like to donate a gift basket...we have themed ones to help you put one together with our Hollywood theme.

Soon the Chamber will be putting out an Annual Report to let you know how we've been doing this past year. Our numbers are up in every area. We look forward to sharing them with you.

Thank you to everyone that has volunteered in one way or another. Our Ambassadors have really stepped it up this year in volunteer hours. Our Board of Directors has been strong and leads this Chamber with confidence and vision. Rita McCloud, our new Office Manager, has added so much to the Chamber since her arrival. Our members have shown up to our events in great numbers. I cannot thank you all enough for your dedication and support.

We have a lot more in store for you in if you haven't joined us yet, we'd ask that you consider it. If you are a current member, we look forward to your renewal.  We enjoy partnering with you to grow your businesses.

To an even stronger and better 2015!

Oktoberfest and Personal Heritage

September 11th, 2014 by Deanne Mulvihill

Unless you are a native American, you came from some place other than the United States.  Well, maybe not you personally, but your family ancestors did.  My heritage is German-Russian.  My great grandparents lived in Germany.  They left and moved to the Volga region in Russia when Catherine the Great made promises to them.  She wanted Germans to farm the Russian region that was similar to the German region.  She promised that the young men would not have to be in the military (as it was at that time).  She did not keep her promise and my "family" moved to the United States and settled in Kansas.

Oktoberfest and Personal Heritage

Unfortunately, I was not taught to speak German.  My grandparents knew the language and my parents knew a little.  I feel that a little of my heritage was lost when they didn't share this language with us.  But, at that time, they were criticized for speaking German and my great grandparents wanted to be citizens of the United States, so they learned English and stopped speaking German (except sometimes at home).  I was fortunate enough to know my great grandparents and have fond memories of them.

I am excited about the 4th Annual Berthoud authentic Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 4 from 11 am - 6 pm.  It is a chance for me to hear the German music I heard as a child, dance the polka's I also loved to do when I was young (dancing with my sisters) and eat the German food I so enjoy.  Even if you didn't grow up with German heritage, you can come and enjoy this festival.

Come to Fickel Park on Saturday, October 4 anytime between 11 am - 6 pm.  It's free admission.  We'll provide the entertainment and the music.  There will be food, beer and vendor items for purchase.  The Chalet Dancers will perform as well as Breathless in Berthoud Dance Troupe.  We will also have a children's pretzel eating contest.  If you own Lederhosen or a Dirndl, we have a prize for the best outfit.

Bring the whole family, neighbors and friends and join us for this wonderful celebration.  If you have any questions, please call us at 970-532-4200 or email us at  You can check out our website at
